What’s on for geos at AOW 2020?

New and refreshed features designed specifically for geological and geophysical communities.

In 2020, a fresh programme will bring fresh opportunities for Africa Oil Week’s geophysical and geological communities, which have been pillars of the event throughout its 27-year history.

In a volatile oil price environment, AOW understands that enabling deal-making is now more important than ever. With this in mind, the following features have been updated or crafted from scratch for 2020, based on in-depth conversations with past delegates and feedback from AOW’s two advisory boards.

Geo Showcase

With a brand-new location and name for 2020, the primary aim of the Geo Showcase is to facilitate the development of new opportunities across the continent.

Geophysical and geology companies will have the opportunity to present proprietary information on their 2D or 3D seismic, with a strict 30-minute time limit in place to ensure engaging and impactful presentations. In the audience will be VPs and SVPs of Exploration, New Ventures and Africa from a global selection of operators.

National Showcases

When Africa emerges from the other side of the COVID-19 crisis, the onus will be firmly on governments to develop attractive operating environments and promote their country as a destination for investment. As such, the National Showcase Programme has been extended to three days in 2020 and will offer an increased number of countries (twenty-one) the opportunity to showcase their hydrocarbon sector to AOW’s global upstream audience.

Each country will have one hour to either host a bidding round, or demonstrate information pertaining to: exploration history, seismic updates, future drilling campaigns and commercial terms.

What does this mean for geos? AOW is placing increased emphasis on close collaboration with our geophysical and geological partners to identify and confirm prospective governments, ensuring a symbiotic relationship which benefits both geos and participating African governments.

Exploration Technology Forum

New for 2020, the Exploration Technology Forum expands AOW’s focus from traditional E&P to exploring the technology unlocking wider geological insights and hydrocarbon potential of the most compelling frontier markets. As the event has evolved, so have technology and R&D advancements which have unlocked previously less interesting geological plays.

The Exploration Technology Forum will allow presenters to showcase their latest research and innovations to an audience of operators (CTOs, COOs, Exploration Directors, Head/Chief Geophysicists and Geologists) and NOCs (CTOs, Director of Upstream, Director of Hydrocarbons, Head/Chief Geophysicists and Geologists). The technology and case studies presented will enable the audience to better understand the geological rationale of future hydrocarbon hotspots and to optimise upstream opportunities.
