2023 Highlights

Maximising Africa's Natural Resources

2023 confirmed that AOW is the premium and most established forum for stimulating deals and transaction in the African upstream. For 29 years, we have united serious decision-makers across the entire oil and gas value chain to facilitate new business and joint-venture opportunities.

Our active community of deal makers include African governments, international and national oil companies, independents, C&G communities, service providers and investors, who depend on us to provide a collaborative stage to connect, share intelligence on enabling policy for capital and investment, licenses and bid rounds, to help move projects forward and inform their long-term business strategy in the African upstream.

Our mission in 2023 was to advocate for Africa to develop its oil and gas sector with strong carbon management strategies that are sustainable and to facilitate equitable transactions that make positive global impact, and a legacy of socio-economic development across the African continent.

AOW:50

The grand launch of AOW 50 put a highlight on African energy transition journeys. Opened by Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, the discussion focused on highlighting the diversity of each region's energy mix and promoting public-private sector cooperation to invest in Africa's wide range of energy sources. Minister Mantashe shared South Africa's energy growth story and insisted on the need to attract additional private sector investments across the country's energy infrastructure. He especially called on energy cooperation and trade amongst African nations and expressed hopes to the see the mega Inga III hydropower project from the D.R. Congo back on the table very soon.

Day 1

It was a great start to the week! We had a number of noteworthy sessions to kick off the week, including an exclusive address from the South African Deputy President, His Excellency Mr Paul Mashatile. It was a day full of insightful content.

Top sessions from day 2 of AOW included a keynote speech from Olu Verheijen, Special Advisor on Energy to Nigeria President Bola A. Tinubu; a discussion on Monetising Africa’s Gas in the Next 7-10 years and country spotlights on Nigeria and Ghana.
