Nico Grobbler is Exploration Manager, New Ventures (Africa) for Africa’s leading independent oil company, Tullow Oil. Based close to the conference centre at Tullow’s Cape Town office, where the team is tasked with managing and replenishing the company’s exploration portfolio across the Continent, he was appointed to his current role in January 2016. Prior to this Nico worked for Tullow for seven years in various Africa-focused roles including as an Operations Geologist on the Uganda oil discoveries, Team Lead and Geoscientist in South & East Africa and as New Ventures Lead for Africa. He graduated with an MSc in Geology from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in Durban before moving down to the Western Cape, where he has spent a total of 27 years working in the Oil & Gas Industry, including for Soekor Ltd. in various roles (later merged into PetroSA and the Petroleum Agency of South Africa). An explorer to the core, Nico’s personal motto is “innovation and discipline” which, he says, is what has helped to ensure ongoing growth in Tullow’s asset base through challenging times.
