Eni confirms a significant oil find offshore Angola, a newly discovered hacking group targets oil and gas companies, and more of this week’s top news

Eni confirms a significant oil find in the Agogo oilfield offshore Angola. The well results confirm the 650 million barrels of oil in place at the Agogo field and indicate further upside in its northern sector. Read more. Representatives from Eni will be speaking at Africa Oil Week 2019.

A newly discovered hacking group is targeting telecommunications and oil and gas companies across Africa and the Middle East. Industrial security company Dragos, who discovered the group, calls it “Hexane,” but remains tight-lipped on its activities. Read more.

BP and the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have signed a joint operating agreement for Block A1 License located offshore The Gambia. Read more. The agreement was signed by GNPC Managing Director Yaya F. Barrow and BP Africa New Countries Vice President Jonathan Evans. Read more. Jonathan Evans will be speaking at Africa Oil Week 2019.

AfDB selects Centurion Law Group to strengthen South Sudan’s oil and gas sector. Centurion will focus on providing specialised capacity building training to officials from the National Petroleum and Gas Commission, including the development of best practice procedures for the negotiation, evaluation and monitoring of contracts. Libya’s state hydrocarbon company has reported a steep decrease in revenue by 25%, month on month. Mustafa Sanalla, the company’s chairman said: “Attempts to undermine our work through disinformation, attacks on facilities, or efforts to illegally export have been near-constant”. Read more.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it will maintain current efforts to revamp Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas infrastructure and ensure there is at least 90 per cent pipeline availability. Read more.
